In addition to strengths in general history & philosophy of science, the graduate program in History and Philosophy of Science offers five areas of concentration in which graduate students may choose to specialize. The areas are those in which the faculty show a strong interest and expertise.
Classics, Philosophy, & Ancient Science
The Classics, Philosophy, and Ancient Science Program (CPAS) serves students wishing to focus on ancient science. It is an MA/PhD program offered jointly by the Departments of Classics, Philosophy, and History and Philosophy of Science.
Early Modern History and Philosophy of Science
The program in early modern history and philosophy of science is intended to allow students interested in this period to develop their talents through a wide variety of seminars, informal discussions, and the availability of research materials.

In addition to strengths in the philosophy of physics, early modern natural philosophy, and ancient science, the department has excellent resources for graduate study in the history and philosophy of biology.
